2013 S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award announced

Logan Duderstadt

EKU's PGA Golf Management program is pleased to announce that Logan Duderstadt has been selected as recipient of the S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award for 2012-2013. Logan is a senior Marketing, PGA Golf Management Option major from West Chester, Oh. He received the award at the PGA Golf Management spring awards ceremony in April.

Program Director Kim Kincer said, "In the program’s seven year history, we have a few students who have been all-stars in and out of the classroom,Logan is one of them. His academic achievements and his service to our program have been above and beyond what we could ever imagine. He was the Distinguished Senior for Marketing this year, and served as Vice-President of Student Affairs for the PGM Student Association. He coordinated a clothing drive each of the last two year for the Salvation Army of Madison County. Before finishing his academic work at EKU, he worked to develop a relationship  between Veteran’s Affairs on campus and the PGM Student Association. Through his efforts, the student association will offer golf lessons to veterans on EKUs campus in the fall.”

Logan will finish his education at EKU with a 7-month cooperative education experience at Acushnet Company, where Titleist and Foot-Joy Worldwide are housed, in Fairhaven, MA. The Acushnet Company is the leading golf ball and club manufacturer in the world. He is the first EKU PGA GM student to work for Acushnet.

The award was established in Dr. Garner's name to honor her contributions to the program. Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, an outstanding student in the PGA Golf Management program (traditionally a junior or senior) will be selected based on their academic achievement, community service, participation in events, and representation of EKU. The awardee receives a crystal trophy and their name is inscribed on a permanent plaque housed in the PGA Golf Management suite.

An avid golfer herself, Dr. Garner retired as marketing faculty from EKU in 2009 following 25 years of dedicated service to her students, colleagues, and the University.
