2016 S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award goes to Craig Hicks

Craig Hicks

EKU's PGA Golf Management program is pleased to announce that Craig Hicks has been selected as recipient of the S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award for 2015-16. Craig is a senior Marketing, PGA Professional Golf Management major from Aylett, Va. He received the award at the PGA Golf Management spring awards reception in April.

Program Director Kim Kincer said, "In the program’s ten year history, we have a few students who have been all-stars in and out of the classroom.  Craig is one of them. His academic achievements and service to our program have been above and beyond what we could ever imagine.”

Craig is completing his degree with a 7-month co-op at the Philadelphia PGA Section. He duties are golf/tournament administration where he assists with section communication and the section’s junior tournament series.

The award was established in Dr. Garner's name to honor her contributions to the program. Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, an outstanding student in the PGA Golf Management program (traditionally a junior or senior) will be selected based on their academic achievement, community service, participation in events, and representation of EKU. The awardee receives a crystal trophy and their name is inscribed on a permanent plaque housed in the PGA Golf Management suite.

An avid golfer herself, Dr. Garner retired as marketing faculty from EKU in 2009 following 25 years of dedicated service to her students, colleagues, and the University.
