2019 Jones Cup
For the 12th consecutive year, EKU’s PGA Professional Golf Management Program participated in the Jones cup in St. Lucie, Florida.
The Jones Cup is a 36 holes of team stroke-play tournament featuring players from the 18 colleges and universities accredited by the PGA of America for aspiring PGA Professionals. The PGA Jones Cup was initiated by Mississippi State University in 2002 and this year will mark its 18th anniversary. Five PGM students from each university compete in a 36-hole team format. The event serves as a unique platform for students to display professionalism, integrity, character and camaraderie while displaying their playing ability.
The Jones Cup held PGA Golf Club is a tournament held among the 18 PGA accredited universities. EKU's five students qualified through PGM's tournament program and represents a great opportunity for PGA Golf Management students to stay competitive. Derek Lemley and Wyatt Wilson were EKU’s best finishers at T12 out of 90 players with a two day total of 8 over par 152. EKU finished solo 9th place out of the 18 teams represented.
The five students that represented EKU were:
- Nick Heimann – Senior from Saint Peters, MO
- Gavin Ray – Sophomore from Asbury, WV
- Derek Lemley – Junior from Coal Grove, OH
- Tanner Staples – Senior from Lewisport, KY
- Wyatt Wilson - Senior from Tipp City, OH
Ross Lingenfelder, EKU’s Player development and Recruiting Coordinator of PGA Golf Management attended the tournament with the students and said, “The PGA Jones Cup is a prestigious event that every PGM student at EKU strives to compete in. We are very fortunate for the opportunity to compete in this 'National Championship' event for the PGA Golf Management university programs each year. We look forward to competing again next year.”
