EKU’s Team Competes in Jones Cup National Championship

2017 EKU Jones Cup Team

Congratulations to EKU’s PGA Professional Golf Management Program on participating for the 10th consecutive year at the Jones Cup Tournament at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. EKU joined the other 18 accredited PGA Golf Management universities nationwide participating in the 16th annual PGA Jones Cup. The competition was a two-day, 36-hole stroke play event contested at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course. Since inception in 2002, the PGA Jones Cup has signified professionalism, integrity, sportsmanship and camaraderie through competition.

This year’s EKU PGM Jones Cup team featured seniors Nathan Bratcher from Louisville and Robert Wolfers from Spring City, Pa.; junior Phillip Webb from Irvine; and sophomores Madison Erskine from Ronceverte, W.V., and Zachary McNeil from Burlington.

Led by sophomore Zachary McNeil, the Colonel team finished 14th out of 19 universities. McNeil fired team-low rounds of 76-77 for a two-day total of 153 and finishing T-29th overall.  Next, Robert Wolfers shot rounds of 79-78 and Nathan Bratcher shot rounds of 80-78 to finish T-52 and T-56 respectively.  This was the third consecutive PGA Jones Cup appearances for seniors Wolfers and Bratcher. Also, contributing for the Colonels were sophomore Madison Erskine with rounds of 79-83 and junior Phillip Webb with rounds of 87-80.

Ross Lingenfelder, EKU’s Player development and Recruiting Coordinator of PGA Golf Management attended the tournament with the students and said, “The PGA Jones Cup is a prestigious event and one that every PGM student at EKU strives to compete in.  We are very fortunate for the opportunity to compete in this 'National Championship' event of the PGA Golf Management university programs each year and every year. We look forward to competing again next year and improving on our finish from 2017.”

The weather was not always perfect as alluded to by senior Nathan Bratcher, “I have never been wetter playing golf” in referencing the weather conditions from Wednesday’s last round. Regardless of the weather conditions students were honored to compete in this event for another year.
