Harpster wins Elbert Player of the Year Award for Second Consecutive Year
For the second consecutive year, PGA Golf Management student Mikal Harpster was awarded the Dr. Norb Elbert Player of the Year Award.
Harpster, a senior from Warrenton, Mo., received the 2013-14 trophy at a recent awards gathering from Ross Lingenfelder, PGA/GM Player Development Coordinator.
Students enrolled in the PGA Golf Management program accumulate points throughout the yearly tournament schedule which is modeled after the PGA FedEx Cup. Each student earns points from both weekly tour events, and four major tournaments worth double points. The student with the most accumulated points at the end of the spring semester is selected to receive the Elbert Award.
This distinguished decoration was renamed by EKU's PGA Golf Management staff to honor Dr. Norbert Elbert, former chair and professor in the Management, Marketing, and International Business department at Eastern Kentucky University. “Dr. Elbert loves the game of golf and is an avid player. Naming our Player of the Year Award after him was a perfect fit!” summarized Kim Kincer, Director of the PGA Golf Management program. The PGA Golf Management program became an option at the School of Business in 2006.
Kincer went on to say, “Dr. Elbert worked very hard to convince people on campus about the value of a PGA Golf Management program. His persistence paid off, and his vision became reality. The PGA Golf Management staff and our students are here at EKU because of his vision. He has left a legacy that will enable students to realize the dream of becoming a PGA member.”
