The S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award for 2014-15 would normally be awarded to the most outstanding EKU PGA Golf Management junior or senior. Because of the caliber of this year's students, it was an impossible task to pick just one. Seniors Chris Bunge (Lexington) and Nicole 'Nicki' Henry (Chagrin Falls, Oh.) were both given the award at the PGA Golf Management spring awards ceremony in May.

Program Director Kim Kincer said, "In the program’s nine year history, we have a few students who have been all-stars in and out of the classroom. Chris and Nicole are among them. Their academic achievements and service to our program have been above and beyond what we could ever imagine."

The award was established in Dr. Garner's name to honor her contributions to the program. Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, an outstanding student in the PGA Golf Management program (traditionally a junior or senior) will be selected based on their academic achievement, community service, participation in events, and representation of EKU. The awardee receives a crystal trophy and their name is inscribed on a permanent plaque housed in the PGA Golf Management suite.

An avid golfer herself, Dr. Garner retired as marketing faculty from EKU in 2009 following 25 years of dedicated service to her students, colleagues, and the University.
